With blossoms bursting from trees, Spring has arrived early in Colorado. It’s the perfect time to share some spring senior picture ideas.
Blossoming trees and colorful tulips can make the most amazing backdrops for senior pictures, but it can be tricky in Colorado! Last year a snowstorm hit right before one of my photoshoots, so flexibility is key! Read the tips below for planning successful Colorado spring senior pictures.
5 Tips for Colorado Spring Senior Pictures:
Talk to your photographer early and let her/him know of your intentions to capture spring senior photos
Reaching out in February or March will give you and your photographer time to plan for your session.
Your photographer should have some location suggestions as well as timing suggestions for blooms.
Plan outfits with blossoms in mind. In Colorado, most often we have white and pink blossoming trees, so keep that in mind when planning your outfits. For other flowers like tulips, black or white is always a good choice to let the flowers add the boldness.
Consider urban locations. Many cities plant thousands of tulip bulbs to bring color to their streets and squares in the spring. Locations such as Peart Street Mall in Boulder bloom with gorgeous flowers of all colors each spring.
Look out for festivals and events when choosing your date. Some cities have tulip festivals, so you wouldn’t want to overlap with an event that is going to overcrowd the area.
Be flexible! Because of Colorado weather, this is the most important tip. You have to expect that a snowstorm may roll through before or during the time you plan your photoshoot. You and your photographer should have a backup date in mind.
Also, flowers bloom at different weeks each year based on environmental factors and weather, so you may need to pencil in a couple of dates so that whether the blooms are early or late, you can catch them. And don’t panic too much if it snows - blossoms are pretty hearty and should survive!
